Lunch at Katies

Katie's is one of our favorite restaurants in New Orleans. It was a special treat to enjoy lunch there with the family. Delicious!

Jockomo feena nay...(Dr. John)

"Jokomo feena nay" is a line from a Dr. John song. If you don't know who Dr. John is, you should stop reading right now, and google him, listen to a few tunes, and come back. Seriously. Dr. John is a pretty big deal in New Orleans- and lots of other parts too actually. Tonight, we went to Jacques-Imos (pronounced Jokomos) and I drank a Fenna Nay cocktail! We had fried green tomatoes, shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake, stuffed soft-shell crab tower, creole crème brulee, and caramel coconut bread pudding. Yep, that's how we do it here in New Orleans!

The best seat at Jacques-Imos is in the bed of an old painted pick up truck that sits out front on the curb. We were lucky enough to score that table, on a Friday night, with no wait at all! How fun :)

Wednesday Night at Preservation Hall

One of the things we love about New Orleans is that every day of the week there are so many things going on. There are over 30 bars and music venues that have live music every single night- even more on the weekends! We've been meaning to see a show at Preservation Hall since we moved here. There's always such a long wait to get in so we've been waiting. Other than a few pretty pricey "VIP Seats" (which are actually the only real seats), it's standing room only. The whole place is no bigger than some living rooms but it was a good time. Preservation Hall has been providing live jazz since 1961.

Our first Nawlins Crawfish Bowl

To say crawfish is a big deal here would be a huge understatement. My company had its annual crawfish boil and what an experience! It was actually the first time I had boiled crawfish AND the first time I peeled one on my own!
