A New Year at Our House

We searched high and low for a new house for 2015...but after an exhaustive few months, we've decided to stay at our current spot for another year. It's in a great location and from what we've seen, we are actually getting a pretty good rental rate (although it doesn't always feel that way when we write the monthly check). We also have some pretty rare perks like off-street parking, included appliances, a fenced backyard (even if it is tiny), great landlords, a covered porch and central heat/air. Although it may surprise you, all of those are luxuries here for the average Joe, so to have them "all" is a real score! Since we decided to stay, we decided to give the inside a face lift: new curtains, a few new decorations, rearrangement of a few things and a good cleaning. Just thought we'd share...

It's King Cake time, Baby!

We joined literally thousands of people in Champion Square outside the Superdome today for the annual King Cake festival. We tried king cake desserts from 4 different vendors. Our original goal has been at least 10...but with lines of 60 and 70 people, it just didn't seem worth it. The festival was fun though and the desserts we tried were delicious. It was also cool that the Harley dealership was set up with their new bikes. Matt and I both found styles we would consider for our next motorcycle (no time soon but always on our brains!). Here's a photo of my favorite: the King Cupcake!

Buttermilk Drops to Tammany Trace

It's been a pretty big week for us. We started off the week wandering the French Quarter and eating Wink's Buttermilk Drops for the first time. OMG! You've never had dessert until you've had these guys! They are worth a trip all the way to New Orleans. On Tuesday, we went back to the Quarter for a romantic dinner at Adolfo's, overlooking Frenchmen Street, followed by a ghost tour and beignets. Today, we headed across the lake to Tammany Trace. It's a biking/hiking path spanning about 30 miles. While we only made it a few miles today, we plan to check it all out over the next few weeks. We're still gearing up for Mardi Gras, figuring out costumes and looking forward to parades. Tomorrow is the annual King Cake festival. You better believe we'll be there!
